This morning I decided to do some research on a few topics related to FHA lending in Arizona.  When I do this, I usually follow this process:

  1. I start with my personal understanding of the topic based on recent information that I’ve read or heard.
  2. I then research what others are saying on the Web through blog searches using keywords that have specific topics on a hyperlocal (state or community) level.
  3. Finally, I will verify the accuracy of what I have read from the original source of the information (e.g. HUD, FHA guidelines, Congress).

In following this process, I have noted a common, reoccurring problem: many bloggers post inaccurate information.

As dissemination of information continues to move from traditional sources (such as the newspaper) to Web 2.0 (social media such as blogs and twitter.), many authors have forgotten or disregarded an importance of editing, referencing and fact-checking.  Perhaps this is why surveys indicate that that as little as 30% of North American consumers trust sources of information about products or services from an online review by a blogger.

This is why I like myfhamortgageblog.  The organizer, Mark Madsen, has done a great job of creating an exclusive list of FHA mortgage professionals to contribute to the site.  Furthermore, he has dedicated countless hours to train and mentor the contributors in order to ensure the quality of the FHA content that is found here.

In Arizona, the FHA mortgage professionals that contribute to the blog have demonstrated a consistently high caliber of professionalism with their quality posts.

I recommend that if you have the chance that you read their articles on this site, review their personal blogs and follow them on twitter.
